That Italian designers Andrea Trimarchi (1983) and Simone Farresin (1980) from Studio Formafantasma didn't come to the Netherlands for the weather must be obvious.
The school in the design-capital of our country, Design Academy Eindhoven (DAE) is what brought them here. They graduated in July 2009 as one person, which no one has ever done before so it's very unique. But if they have one or two diplomas? Well, as they would say: "Don't let the facts kill a good story"
Their work is exhibit all around the world and they are regulars at the Salone del Mobile in Milan.
They have produced many collection in a short amount of time and worked with well-known labels such as Fendi, Vitra and Droog design.
The work of Studio Formafantasma is best described as literaire design; the objects tell the story. As modern alchemists they experiment a lot with natural materials and traditional techniques to create new shapes.
Unusual shapes, material and function make a statement, they use their designs to tell a story.
Their craft is also a statement against mass-production.
For their collection "Botanica" they wanted to reinvent plastic and give the world a good alternative.
They searched the history of the material and found an ancient old method to create plastic from organic material.

De school in de design-hoofdstad van ons land, Design Academy Eindhoven (DAE), is wat hen naar ons land trok. In juli 2009 studeerde ze af als eenheid, dus als één persoon, een unicum. Maar of ze dan één of twee diploma's hebben? Ach, zoals ze zelf zouden zeggen; "Don't let the facts kill a good story"
Inmiddels word hun werk overal ter wereld tentoongesteld en zijn ze vaste gasten tijdens de Salone del Mobile in Milaan. Ze hebben in zeer korte tijd al veel collecties gepresenteerd en werkten samen met grote labels als Fendi, Vitra en Droog design.
Het werk van Studio Formafantasma laat zich het best omschrijven als literair design; de objecten vertellen een verhaal. Als moderne alchemisten experimenteren zij veel met natuurlijke materialen en traditionele technieken om tot hele nieuwe vormen te komen. Onalledaagse vormen, materialen en functies maken een statement, ze gebruiken design als medium om een verhaal te vertellen. Hun "craft" is vooral ook een statement tegen de massaproductie. Voor hun serie "Botanica" wilden ze plastic opnieuw uitvinden en de wereld een idee geven voor een goed alternatief. Ze doken in de geschiedenis van het materiaal en vonden een eeuwenoude techniek om uit plantaardig materiaal een plastic te vervaardigen.
